Whitesnake's Joel Hoekstra Talks 'Dying to Live' and Reveals His Custom Guitars

Veteran melodic rock guitarist Joel Hoekstra talked with Shawn and Corbs of The GuitCast podcast to discuss the new 'Joel Hoekstra's 13' album "Dying to Live" out October 16th on the Frontiers Music label.

Hoekstra, who joined legendary rocker David Coverdale's 'Whitesnake' in 2014 has previously played with a variety of successful acts including Night Ranger, Trans Siberian Orchestra and a 6+ year run of the hit Broadway show 'Rock of Ages'.

"Dying to Live", Hoekstra's 4th solo  album, features an impressive array for rock heavyweights. Two of rocks most sought after vocalists, Russell Allen (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob) and Jeff Scott Soto (SOTO, Yngwie Malmsteen, Trans Siberian Orchestra) both handle lead vocals for the album. On bass is Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder). Drum duties are provided by the legendary Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio) not to mention guest musicians such as keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater), Chloe Lowery (Trans Siberian Orchestra), Toby Hitchcock (Pride of Lions), Charlie Zeleny (Joe Lynn Turner) and Dave Eggar (Amy Lee, Coldplay)

The album, written by Hoekstra alone, was a labor of love says Hoekstra: "It might sound like another "super-band" album but for me it was songs that I wrote that meant something and I just called in favors from a lot of my good friends and favorites in the business".

While there are no plans for live shows as yet, Hoekstra is open to the possibility in the future.

Hoekstra also provided GuitCast.com with pictures of his new custom guitars, all models equipped with a specially made 'Whitesnake' medallion. With Les Paul and Stratocaster models, custom made by Gibson Guitars and Fender Guitars respectively along with a very special "crystal guitar" made by Atomic Guitar Works, Whitesnake's 'Purple Tour' is equipped to continue their trek to Japan in October and then back to Europe towards the end of 2015.

"Dying to Live" is to be released on October 16th through Frontiers Music. More information at www.JoelHoekstra.com
